چکیده
Electrical cables are a potential source of ignition and fire hazards in various types buildings industrial installations, as well all modes transportation, including aircraft. Fires pose the greatest threat to human life health. The composition thermal degradation products depends mainly on type combustible materials combustion process—flaming or smoldering. purpose this paper was determine, based experimental studies, effects flaming smoldering response times smoke detectors. In addition, concentrations gases formed process duct combustion, CO, SO2, NO2, NO, HCN, HCl, HBr HF, were measured using an FTIR spectrometer. results presented confirm significant effect way cable samples burned detector tripping time. highest concentration (Y) test chamber obtained during flame combustion. It further found that characteristics insulation material used, such PVC, had toxicity emitted gases. largest amounts toxic with plasticized PVC sheath.

Some Observations of Two-dimensional Smoldering and the Transition to Flaming
Experiments have been conducted to study the upward smolder characteristics and the phenomenon of transition to flaming of a porous combustible material in the presence of an air/porous-solid interface. External air flow velocities ranging from 0 m/s to 2.5 m/s are forced upward and forward across the exposed, flat, vertical surface of a high void fraction, flexible, polyurethane foam to examin...

Diverse sensing techniques have been developed and combined with machine learning method for forest fire detection, but none of them referred to identifying smoldering and flaming combustion phases. This study attempts to real-time identify different combustion phases using a developed wireless sensor network (WSN)-based multi-sensor system and artificial neural network (ANN). Sensors (CO, CO₂,...
متن کاملMutagenicity and Lung Toxicity of Smoldering vs. Flaming Emissions from Various Biomass Fuels: Implications for Health Effects from Wildland Fires.
BACKGROUND The increasing size and frequency of wildland fires are leading to greater potential for cardiopulmonary disease and cancer in exposed populations; however, little is known about how the types of fuel and combustion phases affect these adverse outcomes. OBJECTIVES We evaluated the mutagenicity and lung toxicity of particulate matter (PM) from flaming vs. smoldering phases of five b...
متن کاملControlling Mechanisms in the Transition from Smoldering to Flaming of Flexible Polyurethane Foam
Experiments have been conducted to study the controlling mechanisms involved in the transition from smoldering to flaming of a porous combustible material, flexible polyurethane foam, with an air flow forced across one of the porous-fuel surfaces. The experiments are performed in a small-scale, vertical, combustion wind tunnel, with the air flow forced upward and parallel to an exposed foam sur...
متن کاملThe role of secondary char oxidation in the transition from smoldering to flaming
The transition from forward smoldering to flaming in polyurethane foam is observed using indepth thermocouples and ultrasound probing. The experiments are conducted with small parallelepiped samples vertically placed in an upward wind tunnel. Three of the vertical sample sides are maintained at elevated temperature and the fourth is exposed to an upward oxidizer flow and a radiant heat flux. An...
